Faculty:
Doctor Doctorson, MD, FACS, USA
Overview:
This webcast from the 2011 Advances in Inflammatory Bowel Diseases, Crohn’s & Colitis Foundation’s Clinical & Research Conference was designed to meet the educational needs of all healthcare professionals who treat and manage patients with inflammatory bowel diseases, with a focus on information shared among clinicians and researchers. Participants will gain insight from expert faculty on breakthroughs in cutting-edge research and in advancements in IBD patient care. This is the largest annual event in the United States dedicated to the state-of the-art clinical management of patients with IBD.
Learning Objectives:
After completing this activity, the participant will be able to:
•Describe recent clinical trial data regarding the next generation of biologic therapies in IBD
•Comment on whether a family history of malignancy precludes the use of immunomodulators and biologics
•Discuss whether internal fistulae should be treated first with medical or with surgical therapy
•Analyze several alternative approaches to treating the refractory inpatient with severe IBD

The International Colorectal Disease Symposum
This 23rd Annual International Colorectal Disease Symposium is designed to provide a comprehensive, in-depth, detailed overview of new, controversial, challenging, and provocative colorectal themes. The annual program is merged with the 33rd Annual Turnbull Symposium traditionally held in Cleveland Ohio. A live surgery day, an Advanced Transanal Surgery Workshop & Wet Lab, an SNS workshop and a day of scientific paper/poster presentations will be included as optional programs. The meeting will occur during five comprehensive days, three of which will include over 80 podium presentations and over 10 hours of interactive panel discussions with questions and answers.
In addition, formal exchange amongst the faculty and registrants will be encouraged during breakfast, lunch and breaks. The topics were selected from the surveys during the last several years’ symposia participants as well as through a variety of expert opinions, literature review and physician competencies. Therefore, the program is designed to include a mixture of technique and technology. Attendance at the symposium will provide the registrants with a detailed analysis of the current status of virtually every major colorectal area. Video demonstrations will help improve competencies and patient outcomes. Both expected and adverse outcomes as well as the recognition and management of such outcomes will be emphasized. Numerous lectures and, in fact, one entire panel will be centered upon the definitions and optimization of patient outcomes. Interdisciplinary integration amongst surgery, gastroenterology and pathology will be emphasized
